As you may recall from our recent article What is a Landing Page we discussed that landing pages are a way to focus a message to a specific segment of your audience and to maximize traffic conversion by making an offer. In this article I will discuss why that landing page is important for your online marketing.
Why Landing Pages are Important?
In order to be effective your landing pages must be well designed, visually appealing, and easy to use if traffic is going to be converted. This conversion is ultimately the goal of a website, and that is why landing pages are important. Whether it is purchasing a product from an online store, signing up for email newsletters, or requesting to be contacted by a representative, action steps on the part of the visitor must be guided by the landing page. When visitors are effectively being guided through a process that generates something of value for the site owner, you will know the website is a good one.
Elements of an Effective Landing Page
There are several things that factor into the effectiveness of a landing page. At the focal point, is how well a website helps a visitor understand what to do. Many good landing pages will have straightforward and concise verbiage that tells users what process to follow so that each party gets what they want. This is usually laid out in a collection of paragraphs, images, buttons, and fields to fill. You have been to a website where you have been asked to give your name, email address, and some other information, click a submit button, and receive something in exchange. Expediting that process in the simplest way possible is what a landing page is supposed to do.
How to Create a Landing Page
So now that you understand what a landing page is and why they are important, you just need to know how to create a landing page. All of your content on the landing page should be contained above the fold. This means that the visitor should not be required to scroll down to see any of the page content. Effective landing pages will also contain an image that is relevant to the call-to action button that drove the visitor to the landing page. The text should be very direct and easy to read. Keep your opening and closing paragraphs between 3-5 sentences and use bullet points to clearly display your value propositions.
