The long time debate of offering flexible work options to increasingly stressed employees has given small businesses an edge where high-profile corporations have chosen to pull away. The gap between what employees want and what employers need seems to have fallen on deaf ears in larger companies while small businesses seem to care more about individual employees.
Work Where Your Clients Are
In this day and age when so many companies focus on costs and yet many maintain an office space then frequently leave to be where their clients are, it makes sense to let the overhead go and simply work where your clients are. Being on-site for projects gives clients more say in workflow and reduces scope creep throughout a project. Small businesses are taking this approach, allowing their employees to work on projects at client locations and move from project to project.
Staying Connected and In Control
Many businesses have a fear of losing control and focus for their employees if they are not physically showing up in an office location. In the day and age of Google Hangouts, Instant Messenger, and Online Project Management Tools, there is no excuse to not be connected and for organization to lose control. Companies don’t need to micromanage their employees, but rather have periodic meetings to organize projects and allow for communication between employees and employers.
