It seems like our friends over at Facebook are never satisfied, and once again they have changed the way your news feed displays. While this growing company has gone through iteration after iteration in their search to find an ideal balance that people not only love to use, but that will actually make them money too. In case you haven’t noticed, the recent changes are very visual, so here is what you are looking at:
Font Changes – The new font for most text will be Helvetica for our Mac loving friends, and Arial for the PC lovers. The “new” font looks more like a system font, and gives it a more simplified look and feel.
Arrangement Updates – The bolder presentation displays a lighter and more simplified left-hand column while presenting images in a bolder way. Single images will now display full width and multiple image adds will be displayed as a collage. Regardless of your screen size, you now have all the space you need to scroll and get to what you are looking for.
A More App-like Appearance – If you think it looks more like the mobile app you are right, this new rollout gives the desktop a similar look and feel as the highly utilized mobile app.
If you haven’t seen these changes yet, be prepared, Facebook anticipates rolling them out worldwide over the next few weeks. And while the current changes do not affect the display of advertising on the site, so my social marketing friends don’t have to change a thing, future changes may very well update how you work.
As Facebook continued to evaluate the user experience and determine how to keep users on the site longer, change is inevitable. With each evolution the goal is obvious, keep you there, help you find what you need, and of course, make more money from ads without disrupting your experience.
How do you feel about the new Facebook feed layout? We’d love to hear from you.
